WILD BILL HICKOK

    1837-1876

Once killed a grizzly in hand-to-hand com-

bat armed with only a hunting knife, although

he nearly died and almost lost an arm.  Shot in

the back and killed by Jack McCall while playing

poker.  At the time he was holding Ace's and

eights which has come to be known as "The dead

  man's hand."

    CALAMITY JANE

     1852-1903

Known for being as tough as any man

she actually worked at one time as a scout

for General Custer.  Companion of Wild

Bill's, some say on a  romantic level,

which may explain Bill's risk taking with

   his  own life.
