Born Constance Francis Ockleman, Veronica Lake was perhaps the most uniquely beautiful woman in film.  She became best known for her peek-a-boo hairstyle which nearly always covered one of her eyes.  Veronica's family and friends seemed little more than leeches looking for a buck.  Her mother prodded her into acting from the time she was in elementary school.  Then, when Paramount dropped Veronica, her mother sued her for support.  A friend of Veronica's published a tell-all book as told to him by Veronica, but when Veronica died from hepatitis she was left penniless. After she was cremated, her ashes sat in a vault in Burlington, Vermont for lack of payment for the service.  Eventually, other friends stepped forward and saw that her ashes were sent to Florida to be scattered as she had wished.
