Although starring as Gidget in many upbeat, happy beach movies, Sandra Dee's life was dogged by anorexia, alcoholism, and depression. She was married to Bobby Darin, but the union ended in divorce. Her final years were marred by illness. She suffered from throat cancer and kidney disease.
