July 16, 1983 to July 6, 2016

On July 6, 2016 Philando Castile was driving a car that also had his girlfriend and her four-year old daughter as occupants.  Castile's car was pulled over by police officers in a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota.  Reasons later given for pulling the car over were "they looked like suspects of a robbery" and "the tail light was out."  Ultimately, Philando Castile was shot four times by officer Jeronimo Yanez and subsequently died en route to a hospital.  The aftermath was live-streamed on Facebook by Castile's girlfriend but what transpired up to the shooting is in dispute.  However, from what I witnessed while watching the video it appears clear to me that at the very least Yanez gave confusing, conflicting instructions and then overreacted by killing Castile.  There also appears to have been a nonchalance about procedures as Castile's car was singled out for the pull over.  The incident is under investigation, but we all know how that is going to come out.   Don't we? - Todd

The School where Philando Castile worked as nutrition services supervisor.  He worked at the school from 2002 until his death.  At his funeral one of the children who knew Philando wanted to know "if there would be vegetables at the service because that is what Mr. Phil would have wanted."
