THE MAYER SISTERS |

On January 1, 2004, the three Mayer sisters were driving to a bachelorette party to welcome their future sister-in-law into the family. The sisters were to be bridesmaids in their brother's wedding which was to take place just two days later. About a mile West of Willmar, Minnesota on Highway 12 the girl's silver Dodge Lancer was apparently attempting to make a pass when it hit another vehicle head on. Two of the girls were killed instantly while the third died a short time later at a local hospital. As with any other human being on the planet that heard this story, my heart was shattered. The immediate question was - why? The more we heard of these girls and their family the more the question resonated. Three young women not only beautiful on the outside, but women of faith who lived for God, part of a devout Christian family. If God does indeed exist then why would he allow such a thing to happen to some of his most loyal followers? It is a story with questions that have haunted me, and I'm sure, many others, and challenged us to question our faith and the level at which we believe or disbelieve in a higher power. For answers I decided to go to the Mayers themselves. I will not risk trivializing their journey by putting it my own words.
