Rob Piest was John Wayne Gacy's final victim.  In December of 1978 Rob was working at a Nisson Pharmacy in Des Plaines, Illinois when he was approached by Gacy whose construction company was doing work at the pharmacy.  Gacy asked Rob if he would be interested in working at his company.  Rob had his heart set on buying himself a car and had just been turned down for a raise by his boss.  Rob climbed into Gacy's truck and was never seen alive again.  Unlike most of Gacy's other victims, Rob was not a runaway or a prostitute, but a member of a happy, close-knit family which immediately reported his disappearance.  Their relentless hounding of the local police was one reason that Gacy came under scrutiny.  Search warrants were eventually served to Gacy and during the second search, remains were discovered in the crawl space under his house.  However, Rob was not found on Gacy's property.  Gacy had run out of space and began dumping bodies into the Des Plaines river.  Rob's body was found washed ashore in the spring of 1979.

Originally, nine of the bodies remained unidentified. One was eventually identified as Timothy McCoy,leaving eight Gacy victims unidentified.  Gacy's victims ranged in age from 14 to 21.  (Information courtesy of Wikipedia)

One of the saddest parts of this story is indeed the remaining eight victims who have not been claimed.  Somewhere there are eight families who will never know what happened to their son, or their brother.  Even sadder, some may not even care.  However, the city of Chicago decided to remember these young men and boys by giving each a proper burial.  The eight are interred in eight different cemeteries in the area with a headstone like the one below.
