John Ford is truly one of the towering figures in the history of cinema.  He is known mainly for his Westerns such as Stagecoach and The Searchers.  Ford holds the record for Academy Awards won by a Director - four.  He won for his films The Informer, Grapes of Wrath, How Green Was My Valley, and The Quiet Man, ironically none of which were Westerns.  Ingmar Bergman and Orson Welles both named him as one of the greatest directors of all time.  In addition, John Ford's influence on other directors simply cannot be measured.
