Frank King's Gasoline Alley (December 6, 1936) Frank King based many of his characters on people he knew while growing up in his home town of Tomah, Wisconsin. One particular innovation he is known for, among many others, is the use of time passage in his strip. His characters were allowed to age when all strip creators previously froze their characters in a specific stage of their lives. At its peak Gasoline Alley was in 300 newspapers and had a daily readership of 27 million. |
