The myth of serial killer Ed Gein probably has grown much larger than the reality of it all, but even that reality causes adults to leave on the nightlight.  All said and done, the actual final count for Gein is two women (confirmed murders), a number of suspected killings and as many as forty dead bodies exhumed from graveyards - one the same day that she was buried.  It was his propensity for human-flesh upholstery and haberdashery that made him a legend.  Ed's mother often read violent passages from the bible to him and his siblings and drummed into his head that all women were whores.  He was discouraged from making friends and some even hint that he was responsible for some of his own family's deaths.  His mother must have been so proud when Ed brought home, not an ashtray he made from clay, but from a human skull.  Ed was born in 1906 and died of cancer while residing n a mental hospital in 1984.  His gravesite has been the spot for many macabre pilgrimages and rituals.  His stone was chiseled down as people took small souvenirs.  Eventually Gein's headstone was removed by local police and is kept in storage.  There is only an empty spot where it used to be.  Now, however, his family's stones are bearing the brunt of memento hunters.  This page includes victims' photos and pictures of the gravesites.  We won't warn you to proceed at your own risk, because you're gonna look anyway.
