New England Patriots' wide receiver left a quadriplegic from a hit in a preseason game against the Oakland Raiders

on August 12, 1978.     Raiders' safety Jack Tatum struck Stingley with a forearm as he crossed through the middle

of the field.  At the time, it was considered a legal hit.     Darryl Stingley died of heart failure and pneumonia brought

on by his condition.   He is buried in Oakridge-Glen Oak Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.
